Insights of curatorial work

Before starting my curatorial practice, I has been practicing as a fine artist. Since then it has been a remarkable experience. Being an artist we are only aware about our own work whereas as a curator I learned to look at the whole picture which is actually a bigger one. A display area is a canvas full of several artworks for curators. Since my student's life I preferred to play with display of my artwork. As a curator, I took the liberty to experiment with other artists’ work. I learned to look at the big picture. Every art work has its own place where it can give its impact and attract audience. The number of responsibilities has increased including all the paperwork, leading the team and executing a good display where every artwork's placement has been justified. It has burst my own bubble of being able to understand my own work only. It has enhanced my understanding for my own artistic practice in terms of conceptual approach. While working with several artists of diffe...

When I met my Dutch father.........

Image
This is about my recent traveling to Europe. It has all started with an invitation from a Dutch art organization with whom I have collaborated a couple of times. I planned a trip and they offered me an invitation to make it purposeful. So, this show and an informal lecture was planned in Alkmaar, Netherlands. I already have good regards for Dutch people because it has been good experience so far on professional basis. My group show was planned in July 16th, Sunday along with a talk. I planned my trip from Netherlands to Berlin and kept few days for unexpected adventures. To be very honest, I was nervous and doubtful about myself to be able to manage the whole trip on my own savings. Off course, I don't have that 'daddy' who will be there for you in difficult times, especially when you run out of cash on your Europe trip. I never had that privilege, not because I was an orphan, because mine refused to be there for me. Not only that he was not there emotionally for me, if ...

School of advises.

When I was around 12, I read a story in a children's magazine.  The story goes like this;    'Once upon a time there lived a painter in a city. One day, he decided to do an experiment with audience. He painted a landscape and placed it at a busy market of the city. He also placed a note next to it saying 'Please make a circle on my mistakes so I can improve my work'. After few hours when he returned to collect his painting, He was shocked to see that the whole painting was full of circles now. With so much disappointment and sadness, he picked his painting and left. He was so disappointed with those circles given by people that he decided to stop painting for a while. After few days, he got an idea. He made another painting and placed at the same place on that busy street with a note again. This time he wrote on the note; 'Please correct the mistakes if you see any'. When he returned after few hours, he found his painting untouched. No one has corrected his ...

'Safety zone vs Out of the box'

Do you know where the safest place on this planet is?  Nowhere! Anything can happen anywhere but it doesn't and there are many reasons for it. We make houses to feel safe, but your house is also your shelter with maximum safety still not completely safe. Anything happen means a ceiling fan can fall, one can slip in the washroom, stair cases can be tricky sometimes, there can be fire in the kitchen or someone can break into your safe home. Sounds morbid, right? Don't worry, it’s not that disturbing. I know we only want to talk about positive things in life........ On the other hand I believe in preparing for the worst first. Worse can happen, does happen and will happen, surrounded by all the positivity in our lives. But it all doesn't happen at once with same person. Some of us suffer few tragedies whereas others battle with different demons.  I have seen people yearning to come out of their cocoon and endure all the freedom. There is one thing which they don...

Why ? How ? Who ? What ? When ? and Why me?

Curiosity kills the cat where as in our curious social circle, our questions are killing us. From funeral of one's parents to birth of one’s child, everyone is asking questions. Whether it’s a divorce or a marriage, death of your parent or separation for instance, the worst part is to explain your situation. When did this happen? How did it happen? Why did it happen? I mean when, what and how can be explained but why?? I have a question in response to this question why do you ask such questions? Or how would I know that why someone did it in the first place? Also how much curiosity do you have? Or why are you so nosy? Ahem, I could never throw the last ones, even though I knew someone and so wanted to say this to her. Well, silent treatment works well or another solution is to answer in Yes or No or very short ones or best is to leave the room and instead go to the Lou, the most private space on this planet. Most interesting side of this dilemma are the tricks of asking these ...

There are two kinds of people in this world. One, who lives in a certain pattern of life means regular lives means regular parents, academic struggles, relationships , old age and so on. Other kinds doesn't follow this pattern, sometimes they don't have parents or sometimes they face several traumatic incidents. With first kind, their lives go on with a certain formula of nature, such as there both parents are alive and normal and they go to collage like normal kids and they grow old and have their own kids and life goes on for them. There are difficult days for them off course because life is not a bed of roses for any one. So about the other kind there can be any experience, any tragedy as extreme as being abducted, being orphan, being raped, being abused or being a drug addict. There is an unlimited list of unfortunate events which can happen in any one's life. Sometimes, it goes on smoothly for some people and then there is one unfortunate event which ruins their comf...
